Managing Environmental Issues SCI/362 June 16, 2013 Colney and Pitts is a pharmaceutical company that is located in California. Colney and Pitts are planning to set up a manufacturing plant near the Aberdares mountain range in the eastern highlands of Kenya. Their main purpose is to use this facility to manufacture medications for prostate cancer. Located in the Aberdares Mountain is a native tribe called The Kikuyu. After much research and extensive surveying of the area, it was determined that a type of evergreen tree known as ââ¬Å"pygeumâ⬠or prunus Africana, is used by the tribes people to cure what they refer to as ââ¬Å"old menââ¬â¢s diseaseâ⬠. We would commonly know this as prostatitis and genitourinary disorders. ââ¬Å"The species hasâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Some of their ideas are that the government should give a full time doctor and medical facility to the disposal of the tribe, also to provide them work within the plant and a paycheck every week. Another option is to lay down roads that connect the region to the mainland and then provide permanent housing for all members of the tribe. Unfortunately, many African governments are known for being unfair and uncivilized, and even corrupt, so how are we to know that they Kiyuku tribe would ever see any of the money or other benefits they are being offered? What is to say they donââ¬â¢t keep the money for themselves and give away the housing and medical to other civilians in the country and not the tribe people? Many people are lead to wonder if the tribal leaders are fully aware of the ramifications tied to the plans that Colney and Pitts are offering them. For thousands of years this tribe has thrived in this land, without the need for money, doctor training, permanent housing. One thing is perfectly career with regards to the Kiyuku and its people, they have been surviving without the modern technology in medicine, without machine driven construction of their homes and without farm hands and tractors to grow their food. The American Dream is the belief that every person in the United States has an equal opportunity to become successful. However, some people are not entitled to the American Dream. Many Americans are not treated equally under the law. Some of the groups lose their right to vote, have a more difficult time finding jobs, or are a group that has been forgotten by politicians. The American Dream is a controversial issue today because many groups in America have claimed that they have not received the chance to have it. Some of the groups that are marginalized are women, people of color, and immigrants that have come to America. Women are not entitled to the American Dream like men are. It happens in real life; teenagers became victims of rape cases, involved in addictive vices, and do unlawful actions.
